St. Barth Islander Eau de Parfum is a men's woody perfume. Inspired by the history of Bay Rum: a history of men and perfumes. In the 16th century, sailors discovered the leaves of the Bay tree of the West Indies, called Pimenta racemosa, a small tree native to the West Indies, also known as Bay St Thomas. When rubbed on the skin, its dried leaves release a very fragrant oil - an excellent way to refresh and perfume yourself... While Caribbean farmers were shipping sugar to Europe, some enterprising slaves discovered on these same sugar cane plantations that fermented molasses (a by-product of sugar) could be made into a sweetened alcoholic beverage. Brewers then adopted the original recipe, distilled to intensify the alcohol content, creating the famous rum. Later, an ingenious sailor from the Virgin Islands had the idea of infusing the leaves and extracting the essential oils. Bay rum was born. The islanders gradually added spices, citrus peels, cinnamon and more to this cologne to suit their tastes and it soon became part of pampering rituals as part of a massage or after a shave. Created in the West Indies, this fragrance was a great success all over the world. Initially in vogue in New York among American barbers and very popular among men, it was even introduced into the royal courts of Europe. Even today, bay rum is still very popular among the inhabitants of the Caribbean islands (from Bermuda to the Bahamas, from Barbados to the Virgin Islands). Ligne St Barth sought to preserve this wonderful Caribbean tradition by adding a touch of modernity to create an authentic fragrance: thus Islander Eau de Parfum was born. The top notes have been preserved (lime, vetiver, West Indian bay leaves combined with an old rum from Martinique), with the addition of cardamom from Guatemala, the queen of spices. The base notes reveal Caribbean guaiac wood, Tabacum Havana and Atlantic Cedrus.
